Our First Jog-a-thon

As if we didn't have enough things going on this week...we ended the week with the Jog-a-thon. The weather was perfect and the runners were ready. The track was pretty small and there were a LOT of children running so I don't think I got pictures of everyone.

Here we are lined up and waiting for the fun to begin!

Warming up with Coach

And we're off and running!

Waiting to get our lap cards marked

Let's just walk for a while...

 Water break!

 Finishing strong...

And what could be better after all that running than a popsicle at 9:30 in the morning!

Our First Field Trip!

We took our first field trip this past Thursday to Florida Studio Theatre.  Now take a guess to what was the most exciting part of the trip...If you said riding on the school bus you would be right!  For many of the children this was their first time on a school bus and it was a very exciting ride!

This is going to be so much FUN!
Waiting for the show to start at the theater.

After the show we got back on the bus and everyone was checking out the program that we received after the show.

Then came the teachers favorite part of the bus ride...playing "possum" on the bus ride back to school.  This counted as our rest time for the day as everyone had a little rest on the way back to school!

Homework confirmed that the bus ride was the favorite part of the trip for many of us.  Some did actually choose to write about the play!

I would say our first field trip was a success.  The children were a very well behaved and polite audience.  They had a great time riding the bus and watching the play.  I was very proud of them!

Pumpkin Math

Halloween brought us to one of my favorite activities...Pumpkin Math! We brainstormed words to describe our pumpkins on the Activboard so we would be ready when the parents came.
We had enough parents so we were able to work in partners.

Estimating the circumference of the pumpkin with yarn.
Scooping out the insides and counting seeds.
 Counting the seams
How do they want me to carve this??
Checking out the design book for carving ideas.
Hayden is rolling up his sleeves...I think he was ready to go in and scoop out the insides of the pumpkin.

One of the activities in Pumpkin Math is finding out if a pumpkin will sink or float.  We had a few issues with the sand/water table.  We started out with just a little leak around the plug, but this pumpkin proved to be too much for the water table.  Thankfully Mr. Tim was able to come in and mop up the water when the table cracked and leaked out everywhere!
So we went to plan B and filled the sink with water.
Many were surprised to find out that yes, pumpkins do float!

Showing off the "goop" inside their pumpkin.
 Filling the counting sheet.

Finding pumpkin sprouts inside their pumpkin.
 Even more sprouts are found.
 Everyone working hard.
Showing off their Pumpkin Math pages!

And the results of all of our hard work!

Pumpkin Math was great fun, even with a little flood!
Thank you to all the parents who were able to join us and to the parents that were able to send in pumpkins and supplies!

Parent Information Night

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend Parent Information Night.  I hope I gave you a little overview of what we doing during our day and answered any questions that you might have had.  If you were not able to attend, the information was sent home in your child's folder.  If you have not signed up for a conference either stop by in the morning to sign up or I will be sending home the sign up sheet tomorrow for you to pick a time.  I need to meet with all parents the first marking period because kindergarten children do not receive report cards until the second marking period!
