Welcome to Kindergarten 2017

If you have found your way here and your child is in my class for the 2017-2018 school year...Welcome!

I have updated the supply list, just click above on the Supply List tab.

I have not been using the blog much in the past few years, but have started a Shutterfly Share Site.  If you send me your email address I will add you to it.  Send your email to me at missy.windom@sarasotacountyschools.net or mwindom@verizon.net.

One thing I always enjoy at the beginning of the year is receiving a letter from parents about their child.  This is a great way to introduce your child to me and give me a heads up with any information you think I should know about your child.  Please take some time to do this, let me know what your child's likes and dislikes are.  What they love to learn about. What your expectations for your child are this year.  Really anything you want to share about your child!  These can also be emailed to me.

Meet Your Teacher is on Thursday, August 10th from 4-6 pm.  This is just a drop in to meet, see the classroom, and get your packet of information.  I am not doing a formal presentation.  Please make sure you know how your child is going home for the first week of school.

Looking forward to meeting you and your child and having a wonderful kindergarten year!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?

We started our year with Brown Bear, Brown Bear.  This gave us a good chance to practice cutting and gluing, following directions as well as shapes and colors! As well as making all of the characters we were able to sequence the story with a pocket chart activity.  It is always fun to hear the students revisit the text we are concentrating on.  Yes, at this point of our reading journey most of their retelling is memorized and that is just OK!  Rhyming, repetition, and memorizing are some of  the first steps in our journey!

And so it begins...

Class letters should be arriving within the next week and if you have found your way to our class blog, I want to welcome you to our kindergarten class!

I thought it would be a good idea to update the supply list and I have done that. Just click on the supply list tab at the top of the page to find it.  If you are able to bring your child's supplies to Meet Your Teacher night, please do!  This does help to make the first day a little less hectic.  Please make sure to put all of your child's supplies (except change of clothes) in a bag with their name on the bag.  Supplies do not need to be individually labeled!

One thing I always ask my parents to do is to write me a letter about your child.  This gives me a little head start in connecting with the children and with you.  Please let me know all those special things about your child, your hopes and expectations for this school year and any other info you want me to know.  Feel free to email it to me at either my school or personal email.  missy.windom@sarasotacountyschools.net or mwindom@verizon.net.

I am excited for the new school year, but I am holding onto my summer as long as I can...

See you soon......

October Highlights!

October is such a fun month for projects and we made a bunch of them!  One of my favorites was our directed drawing owls.  We drew them first with pencil, then outlined them with a sharpie.  When they were all outlined I broke out the watercolor trays and we learned how to watercolor.

When they dried, I cut them out and we mounted them. I think they came out AMAZING!

We made our "Trick or Treaters"

And 5 Little Pumpkins sitting on a gate.
We learned about Bats and made a chart to show what we learned.
Then we followed directions to make our bats and dictated a bat fact or two!

We also made our Q-tip Skeletons.

And of course our Pumpkins and footprint crows!

We had lots of fun in October...now we move on to November!
